New Biden Administration Airline Regulations Mandate Cash Refunds for Cancellations and Upfront Fee Disclosure
The Biden administration has unveiled new regulations that will automatically issue cash refunds to passengers for flights that are canceled or significantly delayed, while also ensuring that fees associated with air travel are disclosed upfront.
These new rules aim to enhance passenger rights and simplify the process of obtaining refunds, eliminating the need for consumers to undergo cumbersome and time-consuming procedures to recover their funds.
According to a statement from the White House, these changes are projected to save air travelers more than half a billion dollars annually in unexpected fees.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized that the rule change will enforce prompt refunds directly to passengers without the hassle traditionally associated with such processes.
The regulations also cover delays in services for which passengers have paid, like checked baggage or Wi-Fi.
