Dump Truck Bed Strikes Overpass in Virginia, Injuring Deputy

A striking incident involving a dump truck occurred on the morning of Friday, May 3, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. The mishap took place just before 6 a.m. on Interstate 81, when the bed of a northbound dump truck was accidentally raised by its operator and hit an overpass at mile marker 292.

This unusual accident resulted in the dump truck’s bed detaching and falling onto a Ford Explorer, which was being driven by a deputy from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy suffered minor injuries and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the dump truck, 71-year-old Gaylon R. Miller, was fortunately unharmed in the incident. However, he has been charged with reckless driving following the event.

The Virginia State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
